On October 22, the Quebec government launched a public consultation to find an answer to the question: Should the time change be abolished?  Dr. Maude Bouchard, neuropsychologist at HALEO, is on the side of abolition. In her view, the public health benefits would far outweigh the economic consequences of such a decision. The period following the time change is known to generate more road accidents due to sleep disruption, among other things.

The question now is what time to adopt, this time on a more permanent basis. According to Dr. Bouchard, keeping Eastern Standard Time would allow better synchronization of circadian rhythms, and would therefore be preferable.
